Uploading a few raw pencil versions of pages from the older days when I first started drawing the Sonic comics in 2003. (But only the ones I'm happy with or wanna talk about.)
It was somewhere around the middle of the first part of the "Return to Angel Island" storyarc that I realized I really liked playing around with action. And I'm certain that this page was it. Besides wanting to make sure I'd updated the Chaotix's designs to their (then brand new) Sonic Heroes models which was LONG overdue -- I remember thinking to myself that Sonic's boost attack had never been shown in the comics before and this seemed like a good time to try and draw that. So I did.
I liked the idea of motion lines and using that sort of thing to direct the eye, so those first two panels were an attempt to play with that. I like 'em well enough.

For me this is where it all started in 2004 in 6th grade Sonic the Hedgehog #138 Return to Angel Island Pt. 1. In all honesty, you Steven Butler and Spaz were the only reason i picked up a Sonic comic...i really LOVED your style its full of life and very fluid (the characters look ready to jump off the page). When i found that you were no longer drawing for the comic series i pretty muched stopped reading them (in the process i actually saved money)....i think i might try to get the back issues (if i get enough money) just to keep up with the story (so many back issues)...around 04 i had even backtracked a few comics before to see your art (i got the one where they found out sonic wasn't dead and then sally gave him a big dramatic slap on the face on stage). ...i would like to get back into the comic world (Maybe)..i really want to read those megama comics and i really like Ben Bates style for sonic........you him and the other i mention are all that archie needs for sonic IM DEAD SERIOUS!!
