Uploading a few raw pencil versions of pages from the older days when I first started drawing the Sonic comics in 2003. (But only the ones I'm happy with or wanna talk about.)
Here it is. My favorite sequence in the "Return to Angel Island" storyarc -- this was the climax and the big battle. I spent far longer than I should have drawing this monster out. There's a lot of stuff going on here (along with another Megaman Zero 2 reference) and a lot of characters moving and scenery going boom and rain and Knuckles pretty much flat-out executing Hunter. I mean, he could have survived that fall but I don't see how.
In retrospect the end of it is pretty dark if you think about it.
I'm really happy with all the motion on this page.

Really loved the action in this page, even if Hunter's "death" was kind of lackluster (Really? Falling to an ocean is the new falling into a bottomless pit these days? Until I see a body, he's surviving on coconuts on some deserted island making small talk with the lifeless Fiona robot Tails left behind.).
And heh, never noticed that other Megaman Zero 2 reference... a lot more subtle since it's the whole sun (?) shining above the sky from the ending.
